Fiber compared with Spectrum coax
Two providers serve the community. Here is how the connections compare.
| Piedmont Broadband fiber | Spectrum coax | |
|---|---|---|
| Network | 100% fiber, installed at Quail Run in 2024 | Coaxial cable installed when the buildings were originally constructed |
| Upload speed | Up to 1 Gbps, matching download | Cable plans typically offer much slower upload than download |
| Latency | Ultra-low latency, with steady response for gaming and video calls | Typically higher and less consistent than fiber |
| Signal | Light through glass, not affected by electrical interference | Electrical signal over copper that can weaken with distance, splitters and aging cable |
| Installation | Free | Varies by provider and offer |
| Monthly price | $69.99 for up to 1 Gbps both ways, with no contracts or additional fees | Varies by plan. Check Spectrum’s current rates. |
Other providers’ speeds, prices and offers vary by plan and change over time.
